At the center of this cultural revival is Eric Sean Sunico, RN—a Filipino-American visionary, U.S. Air Force flight medic turned registered nurse, with 28 years of service in healthcare. But his path wasn’t born from rebellion—it was born from remembrance.

His lineage is remarkable. One ancestor—Mr. Chanuangco—served as a royal physician in the Qing Dynasty’s Imperial Court of China, where precision, care, and legacy weren’t virtues—they were survival. On the other side of history, his great-grandfather, Valentín Sunico, stood beside Dr. José Rizal—friend, confidant, and brother-in-law to the man who would become the Philippines’ most revered national hero.

Between those legacies—dynastic prestige and revolutionary grit—a new chapter quietly emerged: Eric’s grandfather, who immigrated to New Jersey and built a life as a respected internal medicine physician, continuing the family’s multigenerational devotion to healing and service in a new land.

That same spirit rang through the iron castings of the Sunico Foundry, owned by Eric’s ancestors, who forged more than 170 church bells across the Philippines—reaching as far as Guam and Vietnam—many of which were later melted into cannons during the revolution. His broader lineage weaves through history and culture—Marixi Prieto (Forbes-lister and media magnate), Dr. Raul Sunico (renowned pianist), Vic Sunico Diaz (lawyer turned actor), and Maria Ressa, the first Filipino Nobel Peace Prize recipient.
